Olympus E420DCResource have reviewed the new Olympus EVOLT E-420 Digital SLR and pancake lens - the E-420 is an update to the E-410 - it features a new live view auto focus mode, face detection focus, a new 2.7″ screen, and is the world’s most compact Digital SLR, especially when used with the new f2.8 25mm pancake lens. It is available for £339 body only, £404 with kit lens, £485 with double zoom kit, and £449 with 25mm lens kit.

“Overall, the photos produced by the E-420 were of excellent quality. The camera took well-exposed photos, with pleasing, saturated color. Images have the trademark D-SLR “smooth” look, though things could be a bit sharper, in my opinion. If you agree, you can adjust the sharpness using the Picture Mode feature. Noise and noise reduction artifacting aren’t problems until ISO 800 in low light, and ISO 1600 in good light. Purple fringing was rare, and when it occurred, it was minor.”

Nikon P80Steves Digicams have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix P80 Ultra Zoom digital camera - it features a wide angle 18x optical zoom lens (27-486mm equivalent), 10 megapixel sensor, sensor-shift vibration reduction, 2.7″ screen, ISO6400, 1cm macro mode, and Distortion control corrects for barrel distortion. The Nikon Coolpix P80 is available for £234:

“The Nikon Coolpix P80 is a bit of a mixed bag. While loaded with appealing features like the 18x Nikkor zoom, 2.7-inch LCD, high resolution EVF, Vibration Reduction, High ISO capabilities and great image quality, the slower shooting performance, uncomfortable EVF eye piece, amount of noise in high sensitivity photos and slower Face detection system really disappointed us.”

Sony Cybershot DSC-W300Cameras.co.uk have reviewed the new 13.6 megapixel Sony Cybershot DSC-W300 - the camera has a Scratch-resistant titanium coating, Smile Shutter, improved Face Detection and D-Range Optimiser, a 3x optical zoom lens, ISO 6400, a 2.7-inch (230k dot) screen, and Super Steady Shot, the camera is available for £209:

“There are plenty of megapixels and also extra features compared to other similar digital cameras. Picture quality just falls short of being top drawer, but if you are looking for megapixels and features to play with this is well worth closer inspection.”

Tomorrow we will be transitioning the entire site to a completely new rack of equipment at our new hosting provider. This process will begin at 9 AM GMT (31st May 2008) and will mean some disruption, primarily in the form of forums downtime (which may be up two hours). Once the switchover is complete it will take some time for the DNS changes to fully propogate and so you may for a short time be redirect to the new servers by URLs with the word ‘new’ in them, once all downstream DNS caches pick up the changes these URLs will begin to clear. Any issues with the site after the end of the switchover (about 12 PM GMT) should be reported using the Feedback page.
